The Henshaws lived in south London in their three-bedroom house with limited space for Nigerian parents with seven children in the 80s.
Ifiok Henshaw was the seventh child and was an unplanned baby because her mom was in her late forties.
She joined the family when everything was exhausted, and her mom, Bella, was an older mother. Ifiok was born at seven months with many complications, including a shorter right hand with six fingers. She was born at home with the help of a family friend’s midwives, and her birth was not registered.
Ifiok’s parents were embarrassed by their daughter’s physical appearance and went to great lengths to hide her from everyone and everything.
