I Was the Other Woman

Courage’s story #12: My paternal grandfather stole my father’s estate, and I stole my friend’s fiancé and married the man. After three decades of marriage, we had a nasty divorce. Karma is my house guest.

True friends are hard to find these days, but they exist.

Last summer, I met a client in New Zealand. As a divorcee, I was on my own, and I stayed after work and enjoyed myself.

My truth is as I aged and matured, divorce became the best cure for my guilty conscience. I couldn’t look Bello in the face without feeling guilty about how we betrayed Mfoniso.

And after a year, I was satisfied that we were not bitter but moved on with our lives. We wish each other happiness and an extraordinary life.

I forgave myself and put the past behind me.

I pray for Mfoniso often, and may someone treat her better. She deserves the best. A true friend is not easy to find these days, but they exist.
